Artisan Software Consulting was founded in 2009. We’re a small company -- but with a BIG vision. We believe that the field of software engineering is rapidly changing as computers and the world become smaller and much, much more complex. To work in today’s world, and in the future, we have to look for ways that encourage developers to be more innovative, more imaginative. In short, while knowing how to write software is one thing, understanding the ART FORM that is software engineering is the real key.Think about it -- you’ve walked in cities, small and large, and looked at buildings and said, “Wow!” (either in awe or dismay). While the science that went into putting that building together was well known to any architect or structural engineer of the time, it was the innovation and the imagination of the architect that gave the building it’s impact.
So too is software engineering. Anyone with the right skills can write a software routine or build a web site, but it takes innovation and imagination to make something that is truly unique and satisfies the needs of it’s users.

About Jim Schiel
Jim Schiel is a Certified Scrum Trainer with a strong background in enterprise level Scrum installations and agile development in a regulated environment. Schiel worked at Siemens Health Services for 23 years, where he worked initially as a developer, then as a manager for 16 years, eventually playing a leading role in creating one of the largest Scrum software development implementations in the world. Starting in 2005, Jim pioneered the use of Scrum with his development teams and, as the practice began to spread, took on a coaching role, planning and executing the implementation of Scrum and XP practices across six products, seven development sites, and over 1,200 developers. As a business process engineer at Siemens, he helped identify, document, and implement best practices for the software development that maintained the organization's ISO-9001 certification and satisfied FDA medical device requirements.
Schiel is a “first-generation” Certified Scrum Trainer and has been training Scrum Masters since 2005. He received his initial Scrum Master certification from Ken Schwaber (one of the co-founders of the Scrum method) and was also certified as a trainer by Ken. Jim has taught and coached countless Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Scrum Teams from California to Finland since receiving his certification.
Jim is the author of Enterprise-Scale Agile Software Development scheduled for release in the latter half of 2009.
